What platform do you play on?
I play on the Wii's Virtual Console for supported games, and Wii homebrew emulators for all other games. I also occasionally play PC games.
What controller do you use?
I use the gamecube controller for VC and Gamecube games. For older games (NES/SNES), I use the classic controller.
How do you stream your Wii?
I use a Dazzle DVC-100 to grab the output from my Wii. I use OBS to stream - the background was done using image editing software, my splits are a screen region of Llanfair (see question 8), and the screen is a 640x480 capture of AmaRecTV Live.
How long have you been playing?
I've played Metroid Prime seriously since late November of 2012. I've played Super Mario 64 seriously since December 2011, however I have only played on and off for the past few months.
How did you learn to play?
I learned with other people learning the game - I am using an older non-secret worlds route because it is easier to execute. Feel free to ask about routing questions! For Super Mario 64, there are guides you can follow - feel free to ask in SRL IRC on #mario.
Why do you play X version?
I play the US version of Metroid Prime because it is the easiest to obtain and contains all the glitches needed for a speedrun. I also play the US version of Super Mario 64 because the Japanese version of VC is bad.
What are all these acronyms?
Important acronyms for Metroid Prime:
• 2BJ - Two bomb jump (same as a double bomb jump with the 3rd bomb lower)
• 3BJ - Three bomb jump (3 bombs in rapid succession, goes higher than a 2BJ)
• IBBF - Ice Beam Before Flaahgra (requires secret worlds)
• IBAF - Ice Beam After Flaahgra (easier strat, using spider ball clip to skip that upgrade)
• SJF - Space Jump First (scan dash off the ship, first major sequence break in the game)
What is the timer on the left side of the screen?
The timer I use is called Llanfair. It is available here.
How do you play and respond to questions at the same time?
Generally I have time to look over at the chat during downtime. Note that due to stream lag, I may appear to respond to a questions a few seconds before I get an upgrade/artifact. If you do have any other questions, comments, etc. please feel free to ask.
When are you racing next/when will the race start?
I do not have a specific race schedule - it happens when it happens. If I am waiting on someone to ready up in the race channel, I'll update you, but other than that, there are no guarantees as to when we will start.
